The number of votes (PageRank weight) every different Page rank level has is 5 times higher than the next lower Page rank level. For example, a PageRank 3 level has a PageRank weight of 125. The Page rank 4 level carries a PageRank weight of 625 which is 5 Times 125.
So now in the above example, if your site will get a back-link originating from a Page rank level 4 site, your website will get a portion from the 625 Page rank weight. The amount of weight your website will get is as well based on a formula.
The total amount of PR weight that an individual web site can give to another site by way of linking to it is 85% of its own PR weight. Hence from the example above, a PR 4 web site should pass on weight of 625 X .85 or 531.25.
Now there is one more factor which comes into play. The total amount of weight your site may truly receive depends on how many other sites have been hyper linked to by that PR 4 web site. The obtainable link weight is equally divided amongst all the outbound back links. Therefore, if your site was the only one the Page rank 4 internet site was linking to, you would acquire all the 531.25 weight. However, if that Page rank 4 internet site links to another site, your Page rank weight will be cut in half to 265.63!
Just what exactly should all this really mean. Well on the upside, your web site may go from a PR 0 to a Page rank 4 simply by getting a back link from a PR 5 internet site containing 3 or less other back links. The negative news is that if that other site adds one additional back link, you will drop from your Page rank 4 to a PR 3!
