Can't you just appreciate her, one of the very first that trained herself how to bead, the tribal maiden strolling along the sea shore. The woman is on the beach to gather foodstuff for the tribe. She can get clams, oysters, and perhaps ever catch a few fish. But it surely is the oysters the woman is after. She understands, that every now and then they produce this lovely pearl. With her coming of age ceremony approaching soon, if she could discover one of these, it would help in her getting a proper spouse.
She understands she must be spending a longer time trying to find other things to eat, because this course of action may not produce as much meals for her clan, as she normally would. However she can't help herself.
He effort pays off. The woman finds an oyster with that valuable pearl inside! A gift from the goddess. Now she would be able to display her clan that she is endowed by the mother of creation. The one who creates wonder from something rough on the exterior.
The tribal leader will keep the valuable pearl safe. He will place it with all the others on the shine, however she is allowed to keep the shell. The shell, worn by the tides has a tiny hole in it. So she discovers a small but long vine and strings it through the particular hole, and ties it around her waist. Now, draped on her hips, shell hanging in front of her womb, she is sure to bear many strong fine children. Her future is now set.
Whenever we teach ourselves how to bead in this day and age, generally there isn't so much riding on what we choose to wear. A necklace or pair of ear rings won't make or break a date. But to those among us who know how to bead, I think the same amount of care and concern go into the creation.
We are still attempting to make one thing special.
