Dual Processor Motherboard Will Make Your PC Fly: But, Do You Seriously Require It?
You've heard that there is such a thing as a dual processor motherboard. You have also heard the term dual core processors. Are they the same or different? Can they be used separately or jointly? And why would you want them, anyway?
A motherboard (otherwise known as system, main or logic board) is what holds everything in place on a computer, and lets everything play nice together. It houses the Central processing unit (naturally), RAM, video cards, peripheral devices and more. Every bit of computer juice flows through it. The normal motherboard has one processor. A dual processor motherboard has 2 CPUs - no surprise there.
Likewise, there're CPUs that have just one core, others dual, and even up to 8 cores. (And probably much more are out there, just not in the mainstream.) For many, many years, the processors were single, and may handle a job at a time. It looked like more, but that was appearance; behind the curtain, it was busily swapping jobs in and out. When the dual core processor hit the scene a few years back, their claim to fame was the ability to handle twice the computing load, as they each had their very own processing core. Kind of like two people can get the task faster than one person working alone.
There are people who need the souped-up speed of a dual processor motherboard multiple core CPU. It can certainly be a wonderful combination! However, all this power comes at a price - literally, since they're quite expensive. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $450 for a medium-priced dual processor motherboard. Then you need to purchase two CPUs! Include RAM, a video card, miscellaneous peripherals and you are well past $2000. This kind of power and cost would be wasted on the common user. However, if you are seriously into gaming or need multiple complex programs running all at once, do consider a dual processor mother board.

Buying A Dual Processor Mother Board Isn't Going To Be Affordable Who needs a dual processor motherboard, anyway? Why would anyone need that much computing power, outside of a school or business environment? You would be surprised! But you'd guess right if you thought that it might be gamers who need all that speed.
