They aren't exactly affordable! For a medium-priced dual processor motherboard, you're looking at around $450. And that's just the board; that isn't including the CPUs themselves. Prices range from the upper $200's right up to almost $1000. Contrast that with a typical single CPU motherboard at around $250 for a mid line board.
If you go the dual processor motherboard route, though, get as much board as you can. Different ones are rated for different speeds and different chip sets. As with pretty much everything computers, get more than you need today. As several months down the road you may need it! And if you're spending all this money on a dual processor motherboard, you may also do it right.
One more consideration -- when you buy the CPUs, ensure that they've the same voltage ( important) as well as the same speed. Two processors with different speeds will slow each of them, as they try to manage the processor load. Should you get a dual processor system board?
